HISTORY
Until about 35 years ago Neuadd Lwyd was the home of the Rector of the ajacent historic church which is dedicated to Saint Gredifael, a 6th century Celtic Saint who founded his church on the site of the present one using wattle and daub. A stone church was first built there in the 12th century. It was replaced by the existing building in the 14th century, which was constructed using some of the stones, with chevron markings, from the earlier building.
The remains of Saint Gredifael's "cell" form part of a small hut in the churchyard, and Saint Gredifael's well has been traced to a nearby farm field. A cross-incised gravestone of medieval date (from the 8th century AD, or earlier) is located in a turning circle/island in front of Neuadd Lwyd.
